Lowering MMA for caravans
With us you can safely lower the Maximum Authorized Mass of your caravan.
Fast and simple. For only 179,90€+ VAT.
What is MMA?
The MMA of the car is the Maximum Authorized Mass, that is to say, the mass with which our vehicle can circulate. This mass includes the mass of the vehicle itself, all its equipment, passengers, fuel and payload.
Why lower the MMA?
In some cases, the MMA is much higher than what the vehicle is actually used for.
A very common example is when our car plus a trailer or caravan exceeds the Maximum Mass of the set. In this case, the MMA of the car or caravan is usually lowered so that the sum of the two is less than the maximum allowed for the set of 3500kg.
How much does it cost to lower the MMA?
This procedure has a price of 179,90€ (VAT not included).
What documents will I receive?
Within 2 days we will send you electronically a Conformity Report, which you will have to present at the ITV to make the modification in the technical data sheet.
What documentation should I send?
Very easy. You only have to send us:
- Photo of the Technical Data Sheet on both sides.
- Photo of the vehicle registration certificate
You can send us the documentation by email or Whatsapp by pressing the orange button.

Here are some frequently asked questions:
How do I know if I can lower the MMA of my car, van or caravan?
As mentioned above, the MMA can be modified for cars, vans, caravans and trailers.
To know if we can lower the MMA to a car or van, we will have to apply the following formula:
Tara + 75 x (nº plazas de asientos) + 4%MMR + carga útil <= 2000kg.
Example 1: a van with a MMA of 2600kg, a tare weight of 1720kg and 3 seats.
In this example the account would look like this:
1720 + 75 x 3 = 1945kg.
The payload will be the difference between the result and 2000kg. In this case, 55kg. This would be the payload provided there are three occupants in the vehicle. However, for each occupant less, the payload would increase by 75kg. Thus, if only the driver is in the vehicle, the payload would be 205kg.
Example 2: a van with a MMA of 2600kg, a tare weight of 1845kg and 3 seats.
In this example the account would look like this:
1845 + 75 x 3 = 2070kg.
We exceeded by 70kg. In this case the only way to lower the MMA to 2000kg would be to disable a seating position by removing the seat belt from it.
The account is as follows:
1845 + 75 x 2 = 1995kg
The payload with two occupants would be 5kg and with one occupant 80kg.
It is important to mention that in the case of disqualification of the seating place, a Workshop Certificate would have to be provided to carry out the modification of the MMA. This certificate will be sent to you to be signed and stamped by a competent workshop.
Example 3: car + caravan.
The formula to be applied would be:
MMA coche + MMA caravana <= 3500kg.
In the case of a car-caravan combination, the MMA of the combination (MMC) must be less than or equal to 3500kg.
Let's suppose that the car has a tare weight of 1918kg, MMA 2513kg and 7 seats. The caravan has a tare weight of 905kg and a MMA of 1030kg.
The initial account would look like this:
MMA coche + MMA caravana <= 3500kg.
2513 + 1030 = 3543kg.
We would exceed 43kg.
In this case it would be necessary to make the same account of the examples 1 and 2 for the car and check if it is possible to lower the MMA in the 43kg that we passed. In case it is not possible, it would be necessary to calculate how much to lower to the caravan and how much to the car.
The calculation of the MMA of the caravan or trailer is more complex and it is necessary to apply the formula of the regulation 1230 of masses and dimensions of the vehicle.
