Why should you buy a V16 light with geolocation for your car?
Mandatory as of 2026
Since 2021 the DGT allows the use of the V16 light to replace the safety triangle, but from 2026, it will be mandatory to have a V16 light with geolocation and connected to the DGT3.0 in cars in Spain. This new regulation aims to improve the safety of drivers and passengers in case of breakdown on the road.
Here are some of the benefits of using a V16 light with geolocation:
-
- Increased safety: V16 lights with geolocation do not require the driver to get out of the car to position them, which reduces the risk of accidents and being run over.
- Increased efficiency: V16 lights with geolocation can be seen from much farther away than traditional emergency triangles, helping other drivers to quickly identify broken-down cars and avoid collisions.
- Faster: In case of accident or breakdown, when the device is activated, a notification will be sent to the DGT traffic control center indicating the location, so that they can locate and help more quickly.
It is important to note that there are many inexpensive models that do not comply with the new regulations, which do not have geolocation or connect to the DGT 3.0, so if you are thinking of buying one, make sure it is approved by the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT).
